HOW THE NORMAL EYE BEHAVES: BLINKING AND STARING

The normal eye blinks frequently to spread tears from the tear glands above the eye down over

the eyeball. Tears not only lubricate but disinfect the eye, protecting it from germs and soil in the

air. Blinking also gives minute rest periods to the busy retinal nerves, thus stimulating them, since

rest strengthens nerves. Blinking also aids in easing tight muscles, thus helping eyes to maintain a

better focus and better alignment. If normal eyes blink often, it will not be necessary to rub them

and press them out of shape, thus exposing them to germs from soiled fingers. Ingrowing lashes

are often due to severe rubbing of the eyes.

The normal eye never goes into a blank stare but keeps ever alert and on the move. Nor does the

owner of good eyes hold his head and neck rigid and force the eyes to see something at the side.

Instead of rolling the eyes and straining to see something away from center, the person with

good eyes points his nose in the direction of interest. This prevents the muscles from being

strained and pulled. The eyes do move, but with their own free vibrations which are restful.

Discover the difference yourself. Holding your head rigid, turn your eyes and look at something

at your extreme right. Feel the pull? Now, point your nose toward that object. The eyes go

obediently but in their own rhythm and without effort. Our rule is, "Point your nose toward what

you wish to see." This enables the eyes to use their centers of sight naturally.
